A free website audit, written by a person

Send me your URL. I will look at the site myself and email you back what is working, what is not, and what it would take to fix. Within one business day.

Why most free audits are worthless

Every agency offers one, and almost all of them are the same thing: a scanner runs against your URL, produces forty pages of colour-coded warnings, and lands in your inbox with a call booking link attached.

The report is free because it cost nothing to produce. It flags things that do not matter, misses the things that do, and its actual function is to alarm you into a sales call. You can generate the identical report yourself in thirty seconds with any of a dozen free tools.

What is genuinely useful is somebody who builds these things looking at yours and telling you the two or three problems that are costing you customers. That takes twenty minutes of a person's time, which is why nobody automates it and why the automated version is worth what you paid.

What I look at

In rough order of how often it turns out to be the actual problem.

Whether the structure can rank at all

The commonest fault by a distance. Everything sits on one page, so somebody searching for one specific service has nothing specific to land on and Google has nothing specific to rank. No amount of redesigning fixes that.

How it behaves on a phone

Not whether it loads, whether it was designed for one. Across the client sites I manage, mobile is between a third and a half of all search impressions.

Page speed, honestly

Not a Lighthouse score you can do nothing with. The two or three things actually slowing it down, usually uncompressed images somebody uploaded straight from a camera.

Your Google Business Profile

The map pack sits above every organic result on local searches. A surprising number of businesses have never claimed the listing, and it is free.

What your competitors are doing

Who is above you, how many pages they have, and what they are ranking for that you are not.

Anything quietly broken

Contact forms that stopped delivering, expired certificates, pages returning errors. These fail silently and cost enquiries for months before anyone notices.

The same audit, on my own site

Rather than describe the process, here is what it found when I ran it against oakvillewebdesigns.com in August 2026.

6
Pages on the whole site, against competitors running dozens
4
Deleted pages still holding Google rankings and returning errors
0.08%
Click-through rate, from 55,886 impressions and 46 clicks

It also found a client draft page left indexed with the wrong business schema, three page titles leading with the brand name instead of anything anyone searches for, and a homepage advertising delivery times that were two years out of date. All of it fixed. This is the kind of thing an automated scan does not surface and a person does.

What you get back

An email. Not a PDF, not a dashboard login, not a slide deck.

It covers what is working and worth keeping, the two or three things costing you the most, roughly what fixing each would involve, and which of them you could reasonably do yourself.

That last part is the bit other agencies leave out. Some of what I find is genuinely a do-it-yourself job. Claiming a Google Business Profile, asking clients for reviews, compressing images. If that is your situation I will say so, because telling you otherwise would be selling you something you do not need.

There is no follow-up sequence. If you want to talk afterwards, the number is on this page.

Common questions

Is the audit actually free?

Yes, and there is nothing attached to it. No pitch deck, no follow-up sequence, no call you have to take to receive it. You get an email back with what I found.

Is this an automated report?

No. Automated scanners produce a hundred red warnings, most of which do not matter, and that is why they are free everywhere. I look at the site myself and tell you which two or three things are actually costing you customers.

How long does it take?

One business day, usually less. If it is going to take longer because the site is large, I will tell you when I acknowledge the email.

What will you actually look at?

Whether the structure lets you rank, how it behaves on a phone, page speed, whether your Google Business Profile is set up, what your competitors are doing differently, and whether anything is broken that you have not noticed.

What if my site turns out to be fine?

Then I will say so. It happens, and the honest answer is sometimes that you need reviews and a Google Business Profile rather than a new website. That advice is worth more to you than a project you did not need.

Do I have to buy anything afterwards?

No. Plenty of people take the audit, fix things themselves, and I never hear from them again. That is a perfectly good outcome.

Will you audit a site you did not build?

Almost always yes. Most audits are for sites built by someone else.
